Bernd Koberstein sends news from Nicaragua to his home in Breisgau, Germany. It is 1985 and the Freiburg local council is financing the construction of a drinking water supply system, in the South American country. He has never been a construction manager before, always has a rifle next to his pick and shovel. He reflects on his plans and behavior, and also warns of the brutality of guerrilla warfare: "You should come here, but you should also know where you are going first." Soon after, Koberstein was murdered by counterrevolutionaries. This video work juxtaposes his letters with interviews conducted with locals, creating a (counter)public sphere for the people of Wiwili. (as)
